description During the high-water period, a total of 23 fish acquired from artisanal fishermen at the mouth of the Gaira River in the Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta (SNSM) were processed with the objective of analyzing the parasitic helminthic fauna and its capacity to produce zoonoses. The hosts had their abdominal cavity, the surface of the viscera and the swim bladder checked for helminths. The identification of these was based on the description of the morphological characteristics observed through optical microscopy. To characterize the infection of each parasite species, ecological parameters such as prevalence (P), mean infection intensity (MI) and parasitic infestation rate were calculated. To determine if there was an association between total length and weight, and between weight and parasitic infestation rate, a Friedman ANOVA was applied after a Tukey ANOVA. The processed fish showed average values (± standard deviation) of total length of 19.6 ± 30 cm, and weight of 50.33 ± 22.50 g, of which 21 were parasitized by anisakid nematodes, for a percentage of infection of 91.3%. The morphological characteristics allowed the identification of the genera Contracaecum sp and Pseudoterranova sp. The parasite prevalence for analyzed individuals was 94.83%, all nematodes were found in intestines, mesentery, spine and sometimes attached to the testicles in males. The parasite intensity was 36.78±57.70 parasites/fish. The infestation rate was mild in 85.19%, moderate in 7.4% and severe in 3.7%. The Friedman and Tukey ANOVA showed significant statistical differences (p<0.05) between LT and weight, as well as between weight and average intensity.

The Friedman and Tukey ANOVA showed significant statistical differences (p<0.05) between LT and weight, as well as between weight and average intensity.Durante el periodo de aguas altas se procesó un total de 23 peces adquiridos a pescadores artesanales en la desembocadura del río Gaira de la Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta (SNSM), Colombia con el objetivo de analizar la presencia de Contracaecum sp. y Pseudoterranova sp., y su capacidad de producir zoonosis. A los hospederos se les revisó la cavidad abdominal, la superficie de las vísceras y la vejiga natatoria en busca de helmintos. La identificación de estos se basó en la descripción de las características morfológicas observadas a través de microscopia óptica. Para caracterizar la infección de cada especie de parásito se calcularon los parámetros ecológicos como la prevalencia (P), la intensidad media de infección (IM) y la tasa de infestación parasitaria. Con el fin de determinar si existía asociación entre la longitud total y el peso, y entre el peso y la tasa de infestación parasitaria, se aplicó una ANOVA de Friedman posterior a una Tukey. Los peces procesados arrojaron valores promedios (± desviación estándar) de longitud total de 19,6±30 cm, y peso de 50,33±22,50 g, de los cuales 21 estaban parasitados por nematodos anisakidos, para un porcentaje de infección del 91,3%. Las características morfológicas permitieron la identificación de Contracaecum sp y Pseudoterranova sp. La prevalencia parasitaria para individuos analizados fue del 94,83 %, y todos los nemátodos fueron hallados en intestinos, mesenterio, espina dorsal y en algunas ocasiones adheridos a los testículos en machos. La intensidad parasitaria fue de 36,78±57,70 parásitos/pez. La tasa de infestación fue leve en un 85,19%, moderada en un 7,4% y severa en 3,7%.
