Differences of this grading key with those made previously are discussed.Se realizó la nueva escala de madurez gonadal de Mesodesma donacium (Lamarck, 1818), reduciendo la subjetividad en la determinación de los estadios de madurez gonadal. El objetivo del presente estudio fue describir la escala de madurez gonadal de la especie, tanto en hembras como en machos. Se consideraron seis estadios de madurez gonadal: virginal (0), reposo (I), en maduración (II), maduro (III), desovante/ expulsante (IV), recuperación/ post expulsante (V). La especie M. donacium presenta maduración de tipo cortical con tres tipos de células sexuales en hembras (ovocitos inmaduros, en maduración y maduros) y cuatro en machos (espermatogonios, espermatocitos, espermátides y espermatozoides).
