Descripción
Sumario:Rhinoptera steindachneri Evermann & Jenkins, 1891, is a batoid elasmobranch with commercial importance in Mexico. In the Gulf of California, together with rays from the families Rhinobatidae, Dasyatidae, and, Gymnuridae, constitute 90% of the total fishery production. As part of the study of elasmobranchs parasites in Baja California Sur, two visits were made to Puerto Viejo on the Pacific (June 1994 and June 1996) and one to Portugués in Bahía de la Paz (September 2000). This elasmobranch species was recorded in both locations. The goal of this paper is to identify the helminth fauna present in Rhinoptera steindachneri. The prevalence of parasitism was 100%. The specimens from Puerto Viejo (n= seven) showed lower cestode richness of the orders Trypanorhyncha (Nybelinia sp. and larva); Lecanicephalidea (Tylocephalum steindachneresis n. sp.) and “Tetraphyllidea” (Serendip deborae Brooks & Barriga, 1995 and S. danbrooksi Monks, Zaragoza-Tapia, Pulido-Flores, and Violante-González, 2015) in addition to the monogenean Denarycotyle bajacaliforniensis Gómez del Prado-Rosas, 2024 (Monocotylidea) and the digenean Nagmia puertensis n. sp. (Plagiorchiida). The Portuguese specimens (n= six) showed greater richness of cestodes of the orders Trypanorhyncha (Rhinoptericola mexicana n. sp.); Lecanicephalidea (Tylocephalum rhinoptera n. sp.); “Tetraphyllidea” (Dioecotaenia rhinopterata n. sp. and Duplicibothrium cairae); Rhinebothridea (Rhinebothrium sp.); Phyllobothriidea (Orygmathobothrium sp. and Phyllobothrium steindachneri n. sp.); and the monogeneous Udonella almehensis n. sp. (Gyrodactylidea). No other groups of helminths were obtained. Only specimens of the genus Tylocephalum occurred in both areas. These localities are new records in the geographical distribution of the helminth fauna found and Dioecotaenia sp., Nybelinia sp. y Orygmathobothrium sp. are new records in the parasitofauna of R. steindachneri.   TRANSLATE with x English Arabic Hebrew Polish Bulgarian Hindi Portuguese Catalan Hmong Daw Romanian Chinese Simplified Hungarian Russian Chinese Traditional Indonesian Slovak Czech Italian Slovenian Danish Japanese Spanish Dutch Klingon Swedish English Korean Thai Estonian Latvian Turkish Finnish Lithuanian Ukrainian French Malay Urdu German Maltese Vietnamese Greek Norwegian Welsh Haitian Creole Persian     TRANSLATE with COPY THE URL BELOW Back EMBED THE SNIPPET BELOW IN YOUR SITE Enable collaborative features and customize widget: Bing Webmaster Portal Back
