These skills are key to ensuring personal and family economic well-being in an increasingly complex economic environment. The objective was to analyze the knowledge, skills and financial attitudes of university students in the city of Tarma following the competency approach guidelines. The research has a quantitative approach, basic type, descriptive level and non-experimental design. The study sample includes 116 university students from the city of Tarma. The data were collected through a pedagogical test validated by experts with a content validity coefficient of .98 and McDonald's Omega reliability of .813. The results indicate a significant gap in the financial competencies of university students, with especially low performance in knowledge and attitudes. Although relative strengths are observed in practical skills, there is still a long way to go to reach a satisfactory level in these competencies.Las competencias financieras son fundamentales para tomar decisiones informadas sobre ahorro, inversión y crédito, promoviendo la independencia económica y la estabilidad financiera. Ayudan a prevenir problemas financieros, adaptarse a cambios económicos y planificar a largo plazo. Estas habilidades son clave para asegurar el bienestar económico personal y familiar en un entorno económico cada vez más complejo. El objetivo fue analizar los conocimientos, habilidades y actitudes financieras de estudiantes universitarios en la ciudad de Tarma siguiendo los lineamientos del enfoque por competencias. La investigación tiene enfoque cuantitativo, tipo básico, nivel descriptivo y diseño no experimental. La muestra de estudio incluye a 116 estudiantes universitarios de la ciudad de Tarma. Los datos fueron recolectados mediante una prueba pedagógica validado por expertos con coeficiente de validez de contenido de .98 y confiabilidad Omega de Mc Donald de .813. Los resultados indican una importante brecha en las competencias financieras de los estudiantes universitarios, con un desempeño especialmente bajo en conocimientos y actitudes.
