The general objective of the research was to determine the relationship between academic performance and the use of social networks in undergraduate students of the Faculty of Engineering at Universidad Peruana Los Andes. The research was of an applied type, level and descriptive method, respectively, and with a correlational descriptive design. The population was 1316 students from the Faculty of Engineering and 298 students were taken as an intentional sample made up of the five professional schools of the first cycles. The theory to understand social networks is from Adam Alter, on behavioral addictions. The instruments were the academic performance data record form (RDRA) and the frequency of use in social networks data record form (RDFURS). For data processing, descriptive and inferential statistics were used, where Pearson's "r" test and the chi-square test were used. As a result, 49,3% of students from the first to the fifth cycle have low academic performance; and of an intermediate use in social networks, with 57%. These results determined that X2=11,113; therefore, the statistical decision was made to accept the alternative hypothesis. |

La investigación fue de tipo aplicada, de nivel y método descriptivo respectivamente y con diseño descriptivo correlacional. La población fueron 1316 estudiantes de la facultad de Ingeniería y se tomó como muestra intencionada a 298 estudiantes conformadas por las cinco escuelas profesionales de los primeros ciclos. La teoría para entender las redes sociales es de Adam Alter, sobre las adicciones conductuales. Los instrumentos fueron la ficha de registro de datos del rendimiento académico (RDRA) y la ficha de registro de datos de frecuencia del uso en redes sociales (RDFURS). Para el procesamiento de datos se empleó la estadística descriptiva y la inferencial, donde se utilizaron la prueba “r” de Pearson y la prueba chi-cuadrado. Como resultado el 49.3% de los estudiantes del primero al quinto ciclo tienen un bajo rendimiento académico; y de un uso intermedio en las redes sociales, con un 57%. Estos resultados determinaron que la X2=11,113; por tal se tomó la decisión estadística de aceptar la hipótesis alterna.O objetivo geral da pesquisa foi determinar a relação entre o desempenho acadêmico e o uso de redes sociais em estudantes de graduação da Faculdade de Engenharia da Universidad Peruana Los Andes. A pesquisa foi do tipo aplicado, nível e método descritivo, respectivamente, e com desenho descritivo correlacional. A população foi de 1316 alunos da Faculdade de Engenharia e 298 alunos foram tomados como amostra intencional composta pelas cinco escolas profissionais dos primeiros ciclos. A teoria para entender as redes sociais é de Adam Alter, sobre adições comportamentais. Os instrumentos foram a ficha de registro de dados de desempenho acadêmico (RDRA) e ficha de registro de frequência de uso em redes sociais (RDFURS). Para o processamento dos dados, foi utilizada estatística descritiva e inferencial, onde foram utilizados o teste "r" de Pearson e o teste do qui-quadrado. Como resultado, 49,3% dos alunos do primeiro ao quinto semestre apresentam baixo desempenho acadêmico; e de uso intermediário em redes sociais, com 57%.
