Pedro Vásquez published many books and scientific articles on wildlife management and natural protected areas in Peru, especially on the white-tailed deer and its management through sport hunting in the El Angolo Hunting Reserve (Piura), the behavior of caimans and the feeding ecology of sea lions on southern Peru, and the sustainable management of several natural protected areas. He received awards and recognition for his outstanding work for the benefit of nature conservation, even a species of frog was named after him (Osteocephalus vasquezi). But above all, he received the affection and admiration of his family, friends and students. The purpose of this article is to pay tribute to Pedro Vasquez, remembering his life and academic legacy.Pedro Vásquez Ruesta (1954-2023) fue un destacado ingeniero forestal peruano, docente de la Facultad de Ciencias Forestales de la Universidad Nacional Agraria La Molina (UNALM), quien dedicó su vida a la enseñanza universitaria y a la investigación científica entre los años 1978 y el 2023. Pedro Vásquez publicó muchos libros y artículos científicos referidos al manejo de la fauna silvestre y de las áreas naturales protegidas del Perú; especialmente estudió el venado cola blanca y su manejo mediante la caza deportiva en el Coto de Caza El Angolo (Piura), el comportamiento de caimanes y la alimentación de lobos marinos en las playas del sur peruano y el manejo sostenible en varias áreas naturales protegidas. Recibió premios y reconocimientos por su destacada labor en beneficio de la conservación de la naturaleza, incluso una especie de rana fue nombrada en su nombre (Osteocephalus vasquezi). Pero, sobre todo, recibió el cariño y admiración de su familia, amigos y estudiantes.
