description The completion of a thesis is necessary in the training of future professionals in Psychology, it is an opportunity to practice values, skills and knowledge, although it also implies negative connotations in the students. For this reason, the present study aims to know the attitude of Mexican university students towards the completion of a thesis, as well as to determine the differences by sex and the relationship between the influencing factors in its preparation. A research with a non-experimental cross-sectional design, with exploratory, descriptive and correlational scopes was carried out, thus 598 students who are studying or have completed a degree in Psychology at the Benemérita Universidad Autónoma de Puebla (Mexico) participated. A questionnaire was applied consisting of an instrument that measures the perception variable of scientific research elaborated by Uribe, Márquez, Amador and Chávez (2011) and the Disposition scale for the Realization of a Thesis (DRT; Ruiz-Dodobara, 2005). Among the various findings, we can highlight the indecisive position of the students regarding the preparation of the thesis; likewise, differences were found by sex regarding “Personal interest in scientific research”, “Unfavorable opinion regarding scientific research”, and “Academic confidence for the thesis”. Significant associations were found between “Perception of scientific research” and “Willingness to do a thesis”. The results obtained are discussed and some suggestions are pointed out to promote the importance of the thesis in academic training.

Por ello el presente estudio tiene como objetivos conocer la actitud de los estudiantes mexicanos universitarios hacia la realización de la tesis, así como determinar las diferencias por sexo y la relación existente entre los factores influyentes en la elaboración de la tesis. En esta investigación con diseño no experimental transversal, con alcances exploratorios, descriptivos y correlacionales, participaron 598 estudiantes que cursan o han cursado la licenciatura de Psicología en la Benemérita Universidad Autónoma de Puebla (México). Se aplicó un cuestionario conformado por: un instrumento que mide la variable de percepción de la investigación científica elaborado por Uribe, Márquez, Amador y Chávez (2011) y la escala de Disposición para la Realización de una Tesis (DRT; Ruiz-Dodobara, 2005). Entre los diversos hallazgos se puede destacar la posición indecisa del estudiantado respecto a la elaboración de la tesis; así mismo, se encontraron diferencias por sexo respecto al “Interés personal por la investigación científica”, “Opinión desfavorable respecto de la investigación científica”, y “Confianza académica para la tesis”. Se hallaron asociaciones significativas entre la “Percepción de la investigación científica” y la “Disposición para la Realización de una tesis”.
