With the aim of determining the relevance, in the digital environment, of the major Spanish newspapers with decades of traditional printed issues, this study measures the engagement, obtained through a comprehensive analysis, of the twenty most widely read newspapers on the Twitter social network in Spain. The main conclusion is that the highest engagement occurs in local newspapers, even though the greatest reach corresponds to the national press. The results confirm the need to implement new measures to control the business efficiency of the information industry.Mientras las tiradas de los periódicos de papel no dejan de reducirse, su influencia se traslada al ámbito digital iniciando nuevas formas de relacionarse con sus lectores. Con el objetivo de determinar la relevancia en el entorno digital de las grandes cabeceras españolas con décadas de tradición en papel, el presente trabajo mide el engagement obtenido mediante un análisis detallado de la presencia en la red social Twitter de los veinte diarios más leídos en España. Como principal conclusión destaca la comprobación de que el mayor engagement aparece en cabeceras locales, pese a que el mayor alcance corresponde a la prensa nacional. Los resultados constatan la necesidad de incorporar nuevas medidas para el control de la eficacia empresarial de la industria de la información.Enquanto a circulação de jornais impressos diminui, a influência deles está migrando para a esfera digital, iniciando novas formas de envolvimento com os seus leitores. Com o objetivo de determinar a relevância no ambiente digital dos principais jornais, com décadas de tradição na imprensa, este estudo mede o envolvimento obtido através de uma análise detalhada da presença, na rede social Twitter, dos vinte jornais espanhóis mais lidos na Espanha. A principal conclusão é a constatação de que o maior envolvimento aparece nos jornais locais, embora o maior alcance corresponda à imprensa nacional. Os resultados confirmam a necessidade de incorporar novas medidas para controlar a eficiência empresarial da indústria da informação.Universidad de Lima.
