description In Bolivia, there is a scarcity of updated research regarding the information consumption habits of young people. This article presents the findings of an analysis of the informational consumption and the current political attitudes of secondary school students from middle and lower socioeconomic backgrounds in the city of Sucre, the capital of Bolivia, in relation to democracy, pluralism, and citizenship. Using a qualitative approach, in-person group interviews were conducted in public, subsidised, and private schools, employing a card game created by researchers from the University of Chile. The process included coding, inductive systematization based on Grounded Theory, Thematic Analysis, the Constant Comparative Method, and qualitative analysis. The results show that the information consumption of 16- and 17 year-olds is incidental and focused on social media, which they prefer despite recognizing their lack of credibility, as well as maintaining their interest in public affairs and considering that traditional media are not independent. Secondary school students support democracy, distrust Bolivian politicians and rulers, and demand equitable access to job opportunities. Their critical attitude is vulnerable to invisibility and political neglect. Young people face a lack of public policies that support the development of plural citizenship and promote media literacy.

Este artículo aporta hallazgos del análisis del consumo informativo y las actitudes políticas actuales de los jóvenes estudiantes de secundaria pertenecientes a niveles socioeconómicos medios y pobres en la ciudad de Sucre, capital de Bolivia, relacionadas con la democracia, el pluralismo y la ciudadanía. Desde un enfoque cualitativo, se realizaron entrevistas grupales presenciales en unidades educativas fiscales, de convenio y privadas con un juego de cartas creado por investigadores de la Universidad de Chile. El proceso incluyó la codificación, sistematización inductiva con base en la teoría fundamentada, el análisis temático, el método comparativo constante y el análisis cualitativo. Los resultados evidencian que el consumo informativo de los jóvenes de ١٦ y ١٧ años es incidental y centrado en los medios sociales, los cuales prefieren pese a reconocer su falta de credibilidad, así como mantienen su interés por los asuntos públicos y consideran que los medios de comunicación tradicionales no son independientes. Los estudiantes de secundaria apoyan la democracia, desconfían de los gobernantes en Bolivia y demandan acceso equitativo a fuentes laborales. Su actitud crítica es vulnerable ante la invisibilización y la desatención política. La juventud carece de políticas públicas para fomentar una ciudadanía plural y la alfabetización mediática informacional.Na Bolívia, existem poucos estudos atualizados que se concentram nos jovens e nas informações que consomem. Este artigo apresenta descobertas da análise do consumo informativo e das atitudes políticas atuais dos estudantes do ensino médio, pertencentes a níveis socioeconômicos médios e pobres na cidade de Sucre, capital da Bolívia, relacionadas à democracia, ao pluralismo e à cidadania. Com uma abordagem qualitativa, foram realizadas entrevistas grupais presenciais em unidades educativas públicas, conveniadas e privadas, utilizando um jogo de cartas criado por pesquisadores da Universidade do Chile. O processo incluiu codificação, sistematização indutiva com base na Teoria Fundamentada, Análise Temática, Método Comparativo Constante e análise qualitativa. Os resultados evidenciam que o consumo informativo dos jovens de 16 e 17 anos é incidental e centrado nas redes sociais, que preferem a pesar de reconhecerem a sua falta de credibilidade, mantendo o seu interesse pelos asuntos públicos e considerando os meios de comunicação tradicionais como não independentes. Os estudantes do ensino médio apoiam a democracia, desconfiam dos governantes na Bolívia e demandam acesso equitativo a oportunidades de trabalho. Sua atitude crítica é vulnerável à invisibilidade e ao descaso político.
