During this century there was the unfolding of ideas and many other creative theories and methods of this science in manyfold ways. And also in this time appeared the Nazi psychiatry. In historical perspective not only the murdering of countless psychiatric patients was a disaster. Expulsion, intellectual exhaustion, death of many psychiatrists and war damages too had catastrophic consequences. As a paradox result, German psychiatry -based on the work of the emigrated psychiatrists- got world acknowledgement.La centuria de la psiquiatría alemana entre 1899 y 1999 se caracterizó por contrastes creativos y catastróficos. En este período esos contrastes y las tensiones entre ellos se pueden personalizar en los nombres de Kraepelin y de Freud. Durante esos cien años se produjo el despliegue de las ideas y muchas otras teorías y métodos acerca de esta ciencia. Y, también en ese tiempo apareció la psiquiatría nazi. En términos históricos, no sólo la exterminación de innumerables pacientes constituyó un desastre. La expulsión, el deterioro intelectual y la muerte de muchos psiquiatras, así como los daños causados por la guerra dejaron también dramáticas consecuencias. Como resultado paradójico, la psiquiatría alemana –en base al trabajo de los psiquiatras emigrados– alcanzó reconocimiento mundial.
