Research methods usually applied in the field, as well as levels of analysis (from microenvironment to global environments) are analyzed. Then, two of the most relevant study fields are examined: environmental attitudes and sustainable development. Finally, the future of environmental psychology is discussed, considering the raise of environmental problems and concerns.El objetivo de este artículo fue realizar una revisión de literatura acerca de la psicología ambiental, la cual es considerada una disciplina que estudia la relación entre el individuo y el medio ambiente. Debido a la gran diversidad que existe en las maneras en que se estudia la relación entre el individuo y el medio ambiente, tomando en cuenta que este último incluye tanto al ambiente social como al físico, así como el ambiente natural y el ambiente construido, se elaboró acerca de la definición de la psicología ambiental y de sus características más resaltantes. Posteriormente, se incluyeron entre los puntos a considerar los métodos de estudio que habitualmente se emplean dentro de la disciplina, así como los posibles niveles de análisis en que se suelen segmentar las investigaciones particulares de la psicología ambiental: desde niveles considerados como microambientes hasta ambientes globales; seguidamente se comentó acerca de dos de los campos de estudio más resaltantes: las actitudes ambientales y el desarrollo sustentable.
