With progress in the neurosciences in the past decades, there is a contemporary trend towards the solution of the problem through brain research. The aim of this study is demonstrate that: (a) the current trend shows a form of naïve materialism, similar to 19th century, “naïve materialism”; and (b) Wilhelm Wundt’s antimaterialist position offers an alternative to naïve materialism which shows to be more plausible.El problema mente-cuerpo es un tema central y constante no solo en la historia de la psicología sino de todas las ciencias que se ocupan de los llamados procesos mentales. Gracias a los progresos ocurridos en las neurociencias en las últimas décadas, ha aparecido una tendencia a resolver ese problema por medio de la investigación cerebral. El presente artículo intenta demostrar que: (a) esta tendencia contemporánea revela un tipo de materialismo ingenuo, que se asemeja mucho al “materialismo vulgar” del siglo XIX, y (b) que la posición defendida por Wilhelm Wundt está en abierta oposición a toda forma de materialismo. Se concluye que Wundt ofrece una alternativa menos ingenua y por tanto más plausible.
