Objective. To determine the influence of social networks on academic performance of the students of Universidad de Huanuco during the academic year of 2018. Methods. A questionnaire was used in data collection. For the inferential analysis, the Spearman’s Rho Correlation Test was used. Results. It was evidenced that 55.5 % (207/373) presented good academic performance, and 63 % (235/373) showed high use of social networks. Likewise, social networks significantly influence academic performance of students, with p <= 0.000. Academic performance is significantly influenced by social networks in the dimensions of common interests (p <= 0.000), type of information shared (p <= 0.000), communication benefits (p<= 0.002), and virtual communication (p <= 0.000). Conclusions. Social networks influence academic performance of the students of Universidad de Huanuco. |

Se empleó un cuestionario en la recolección de datos. Para el análisis inferencial se utilizó la Prueba de Correlaciones de Rho de Spearman. Resultados. Se evidenciaron que el 55,5 % (207/373) presentaron rendimiento académico bueno, y el 63 % (235/373) manifestaron alto uso de las redes sociales. Asimismo, las redes sociales influyen significativamente en el rendimiento académico de los estudiantes, con p <= 0,000. El rendimiento académico es influenciado significativamente por las redes sociales en las dimensiones de intereses comunes (p <= 0,000), tipo de información compartida (p <= 0,000), beneficios de comunicación (p <= 0,002), y comunicación virtual (p <= 0,000). Conclusión. Las redes sociales influyen en el rendimiento académico de los estudiantes de la Universidad de Huánuco.Objetivo. Determinar a influência das redes sociais sobre o desempenho acadêmico dos estudantes da Universidade de Huánuco durante o ano acadêmico de 2018. Métodos. Este foi um estudo observacional, transversal e prospectivo, com um desenho correlacional. A população era de 12.674 estudantes e a amostra era de 373 estudantes da Universidade de Huánuco. Foi utilizado um questionário para a coleta de dados. O teste de correlação Rho do Spearman foi usado para análise inferencial. Resultados. Constatou-se que 55,5% (207/373) mostraram bom desempenho acadêmico, e 63% (235/373) mostraram alto uso de redes sociais. Da mesma forma, as redes sociais influenciam significativamente o desempenho acadêmico dos estudantes, com p <= 0,000. O desempenho acadêmico é significativamente influenciado pelas redes sociais nas dimensões de interesses comuns (p <= 0,000), tipo de informação compartilhada (p <= 0,000), benefícios de comunicação (p <= 0,002) e comunicação virtual (p <= 0,000). Conclusão.
