The sample consisted of 208 students between 13 and 23 years old, who were selected through a simple random probabilistic sampling, from a population of 454. Results. There was a very low, positive and direct relationship between study habits and academic performance (Spearmans Rho=0.18; p=0,009), in the case of the relationship between the dimensions of study habits with academic performance, only the dimension dedication to homework was significant (Spearmans Rho=0,25; p-value=0,000), the others (study techniques, preparation for exams, attitude during classes and study environment) despite being positive none were significant (p-value>0.05) Conclusions. There is a statistically significant relationship, but not causal, between study habits in general and between its dimension dedication to homework and academic performance.

Determinar la relación existente entre los hábitos de estudio y el rendimiento académico en estudiantes de inglés como segunda lengua. Métodos. Se desarrolló una investigación de enfoque cuantitativo, de nivel relacional, tipo observacional, transversal de diseño no experimental y correlacional. Para recolectar la información de los hábitos de estudio se empleó el inventario de hábitos de estudio CASM-85 y para los datos de rendimiento académico se utilizaron los registros de notas. La muestra estuvo conformada por 208 estudiantes de entre 13 y 23 años, quiénes fueron seleccionaron por medio de un muestreo probabilístico de tipo alatorio simple, de una población de 454. Resultados. Existió una relación escasa, positiva y directa entre los hábitos de estudio y el rendimiento académico (Rho de Spearman=0,18; p=0,009); para el caso de la relación entre las imensiones de los hábitos de estudio y el rendimiento académico solo fue significativa la dimensión dedicación a las tareas (Rho de Spearman=0,25; p-valor=0,000); las demás (técnicas de estudio, preparación para los exámenes, actitud durante las clases y ambiente de estudio), pese a ser positivas, ninguna fue signifcativa (p-valor>0,05). Conclusiones. Existe una relación estadísticamente signifcativa, más no causal, entre los hábitos de estudio y su dimensión dedicación a las tareas, con el rendimiento académico.Objetivo. Determinar a relação entre os hábitos de estudo e o desempenho acadêmico dos alunos de inglês como segunda língua. Métodos. Foi realizada uma pesquisa quantitativa, relacional, observacional, transversal, não-experimental e correlacional. O inventário de hábitos de estudo CASM-85 foi usado para coletar informações sobre hábitos de estudo, e os dados de desempenho acadêmico foram coletados dos registros de notas. A amostra consistiu de 208 estudantes entre 13 e 23 anos de idade, que foram selecionados por simples amostragem de probabilidade aleatória a partir de uma população de 454 habitantes. Resultados. Houve uma relação fraca, positiva e direta entre os hábitos de estudo e o desempenho acadêmico (Spearman's Rho=0,18; p=0,009); no caso da relação entre as dimensões dos hábitos de estudo e o desempenho acadêmico, apenas a dimensão da dedicação às tarefas foi significativa (Spearman's Rho=0,25; p=0,000); as outras (técnicas de estudo, preparação para exames, atitude durante as aulas e ambiente de estudo), apesar de ser positiva, nenhuma foi significativa (p=0,05). Conclusões.
