However, most of the stories of photojournalism appear included only as a brief chapter on the general discipline manuals. This paper presents an analysis of these manuals in order to signify their expository lines and structuring criteria, but also to report the most significant absences that affect the histories of photojournalism raised so far. The results point to evaluate most of the histories analyzed as deficient in relation to the study of social, technological and cultural context of the selected images.Los teóricos del fotoperiodismo advierten de la necesidad de conocer la historia de este ámbito para llegar a alcanzar su dominio práctico y analítico. Sin embargo, la mayoría de las historias del fotoperiodismo aparecen incluidas como un escueto capítulo en las obras generalistas de la disciplina. Este artículo propone un análisis de estos manuales con el objetivo de significar sus líneas expositivas, criterios de estructuración; pero también denunciar ausencias más significativas que condicionan las historias del fotoperiodismo planteadas hasta el momento. Los resultados obtenidos apuntan a valorar la mayor parte de las historias del ámbito como deficientes en relación al estudio del contexto social, tecnológico y cultural de las imágenes seleccionadas.Universidad de Piura.
