The underlining proposal is that the debate about photography as art -or what time of photography is artistic and whatother kind is not is not- is not important, but instead it has to be considered the analysis of photography in the occidental artistic panorama, and the enormous consequences that it has had and continues to have on the reflection about creativity and the reality of our time.A partir de un recorrido por la historia de la fotografía en relación con las artes, y un análisis de los hitos historiográficos sobre el tema del arte fotográfico, este artículo propone algunas cuestiones claves que diferencian la fotografía de la pintura, y la hacen especialmente idónea para la expresión artística en nuestro tiempo. La propuesta implícita es que no importa tanto el debate sobre si la fotografía es arte o sobre qué tipo de fotografíaes artística y qué otro tipo no lo es, como analizar el hecho mismo de lo fotográfico en el panorama artístico occidental, y las enormes consecuencias que ha tenido y sigue teniendo para la reflexión sobre la creatividad humana en relación con la realidad de nuestro tiempo.Universidad de Piura.
