Eco-efficiency is based on two pillars: the reduction of the overexploitation of natural resources (to achieve a more sustainable use) and the reduction of pollution associated with educational and production processes. But it goes further: towards seeking an increased productivity of natural resources and to reduce the environmental impacts along the entire life cycle of products, therefore, education is essential to achieve the desired sustainability. The article collects the methodology to be followed by educational institutions to be competitive in a globalized world where one is becoming more efficient or rather eco-efficient and so we contribute to form true environmental citizens. We present the results of environmental achievements of some educational institutions in the Lambayeque region.El objetivo de este trabajo consiste en realizar la revisión bibliográfica centrándose en el marco conceptual que ha desarrollado la Educación en Ecoeficiencia, el mismo que pretende generar compromisos ambientales de sostenibilidad, a fin de fortalecer las acciones que buscan en la ecoeficiencia una iniciativa importante para el sector educativo respecto de la conservación y recuperación de nuestros recursos naturales, para ello involucra diversas experiencias interinstitucionales. La ecoeficiencia se apoya en dos pilares: reducir la sobre explotación de los recursos naturales (lograr un uso más sostenible) y disminuir la contaminación asociada a los procesos educativos y productivos. Pero apunta aún más allá: busca un incremento de la productividad de los recursos naturales, así como reducir los impactos ambientales a lo largo de todo el ciclo de vida de los productos, la educación es primordial para lograr la ansiada Sostenibilidad. El artículo recoge la metodología que deben seguir las instituciones educativas para ser competitivas en un mundo globalizado donde cada vez se es más eficiente o mejor dicho Ecoeficiente y de esta manera contribuimos a formar verdaderos ciudadanos ambientales.
