Early Childhood Neglect, Toxic Stress, and NeurodevelopmentDe-Bofarull, IgnasiCarballo-Marquez, AnnaBuxarrais, Maria Rosaneurodevelopmentearly childhoodparentingneglecttoxic stressSeveral and recent neuroscientific studies have accumulated empirical evidence about the maturation and neurodevelopmental processes that occur in the human brain during the first months and years of life. This immaturity gives the human brain under construction greater plasticity and learning capacity, but also leads to greater vulnerability to harmful and toxic agents from the environment. Therefore, it is considered that the care quality received in early childhood and child abuse in the form of emotional neglect, directly influence the architecture and functionality of the developing brain, both of which would elicit physiological responses of chronic and sustained (toxic) stress, being a key risk factor for the development of both physical and mental illness (anxiety and depression) in adolescence and adulthood. In this sense, a prevention model is proposed in which the first caregivers (family and school) act appropriately contributing to improve school success.Universidad Católica San Pablo2019-06-20info:eu-repo/semantics/articleinfo:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersionReview articleArtículo de revisiónapplication/pdftext/xmlhttps://revistas.ucsp.edu.pe/index.php/emomentum/article/view/18510.36901/em.v4i1.185Educationis Momentum; Vol. 4 Núm. 1 (2018): Educationis Momentum; 79-104Educationis Momentum; Vol. 4 No. 1 (2018): Educationis Momentum; 79-1042517-98532414-1364reponame:Revistas - Universidad Católica San Pabloinstname:Universidad Católica San Pabloinstacron:UCSPspahttps://revistas.ucsp.edu.pe/index.php/emomentum/article/view/185/205https://revistas.ucsp.edu.pe/index.php/emomentum/article/view/185/1729Derechos de autor 2018 Ignasi De-Bofarull, Anna Carballo-Marquez, Maria Rosa Buxarraishttp://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc-nd/4.0info:eu-repo/semantics/openAccessoai:revistas.ucsp.edu.pe:article/1852025-04-07T16:24:41Z |
