This article provides a theoretical review of the models based on Bandura’s social cognitive theory and its variants applied to career choice, in which various individual variables such as gender and age intervene; psychological such as self-efficacy and self-regulation of learning; socioeconomic, academic and family, which together must be considered to provide adequate and relevant guidance to students who wish to study a career as part of their life project.La educación es un proceso que encierra en su consecución una serie de momentos cruciales para el desarrollo del individuo, siendo uno de ellos la continuidad de la formación superior, lo cual se establece inicialmente por medio de la elección de una carrera universitaria, cuya acción podría constituirse como un acto complejo.
