This study notices that the indigenous demographic reduction affected the amount of the tax, which changed the actions of the encomenderos in the political, social and economic life of the city.El presente estudio introductorio se centra en ver cómo la encomienda resultó siendo vital en la conformación de la inicial ciudad de San Miguel, así como en el posterior desarrollo y consolidación de la misma hasta aproximadamente 1578, año del segundo traslado de la ciudad al puerto de Paita.
