The peasant patrols constitute a widespread form of Andean communal institution that exercises functions of local government, justice, local development, dialogue with the state and supra-local articulation.El objetivo de este texto es explicar la naturaleza de institución comunitaria andina que tienen las rondas campesinas a fin de sustentar sus demandas de reconocimiento constitucional y legal. Este análisis parte de una interpretación pluralista de la Carta constitucional de 1993 y del Convenio 169 de la OIT, con el objeto de enriquecer el debate sobre la reforma constitucional en curso.
