Tal evento se caracteriza por comidas, ingestión de alcohol, danzas y música. Atrae Otavalenos de todas partes del Ecuador hacia sus comunidades natales con el propósito de celebrar. Sin embargo, la ebriedad y la violencia, que también caracterizan dichos festejos, han sido fuente de mucha crítica.
