Human mobilization processes have reached unsuspected levels. Violence is still a strong factor present in international relationships. Cross-border economic crises have shown the darkest side of globalization: cross-border corruption. Tourism is facing these problems permanently. But it also nourishes from contemporary developments: fastest transportation systems, instantaneity of communications that make information flowing each and everywhere, becoming a so usual phenomenon that we do not consider it any estrange process. Tourism implies facing the “others”. If we understand tourism positively, if we focus on it as an ally and not an enemy, if those visiting different cultures respect them, and they receive him/her with interest and curiosity, tourism can become a very important tool for the construction of peace and mutual comprehension. If it is the opposite, tourism can open the door for real and intense difficulties. Is tourism a tool to multiculturalism, the construction of common spaces, a road to peace? Sin duda el Siglo XXI ha iniciado y avanza en medio de crisis sobre las que conviene reflexionar desde todo punto de vista. Los procesos de movilidad humana se han incrementado a niveles insospechados. La violencia sigue siendo un factor presente en las relaciones internacionales. Crisis económicas transfronterizas se han mostrado como el lado más oscuro de la globalización: corrupción de exportación. Sin duda el turismo vive en medio de todo ello. Se nutre de medios de transporte cada vez más masivos de personas, y de sistemas de instantaneidad sin geografía que hacen que la información fluya desde y hacia todos los viejos confines que hoy ya no generan misterio alguno. El turismo genera, necesariamente, encuentros con el otro. Si lo vemos como nuestro aliado y no como nuestro enemigo, si quien visita otras culturas, lo hace con respeto y quien los recibe siente una curiosidad positiva, estamos frente a una herramienta sin parangón para la construcción de comprensión y paz. Lo contrario abre puertas a conflictos cada vez más ciertos e intensos en los planos ideológicos y espirituales que, sin duda, se traducen con el tiempo en conflictos reales. ¿Es, así, el turismo una herramienta hacia la multiculturalidad activa, la construcción de espacios comunes, el acercamiento a la anhelada paz?
