Survival and results of second laparotomy for ovarian carcinoma in these 8 patients were affected by the presence of ascites, surgical stage and the presence of residual tumor after cytoreductive surgery. Based on our experience, our technique is presented for vaginal prophylactic salpingo-oophorectomy.Durante los años 1969 - 1982, 369 pacientes con carcinoma del ovario fueron explorados quirúrgicamente en el Hospital del Centro Médico de la Universidad de Miami. Ocho pacientes (2.1 %) tenían histerectomía vaginal previa por enfermedad benigna. Todas las pacientes histerectomizadas tenían más de 40 años al momento de la intervención vaginal. La sobrevida y los resultados de segunda laparotomía para carcinoma del ovario en estas 8 pacientes fueron afectados por la presencia de ascitis, el estadío quirúrgico y la presencia de tumor residual después de cirugía citoreductora.
