RESULTS: 84% were climacteric or menopausal. Most known symptoms were neuropsychiatric, 72% knew about treatment, only 6% used it, 97% accepted HRT and 61% were willing to receive HRT for live, but only 25% knew the benefits. There was fear of bleeding and gestation in 37% and 58% respectively. CONCLUSION: Patients with better education bad more knowledge of HRT benefits. Patients who receive HRT know more about the benefits of hormonal therapy.OBJETIVO: Establecer el nivel de conocimiento y aceptación de la terapia de reemplazo hormonal en las pacientes mayores de 39 años que acuden a consultorio externo, DISEÑO: Estudio transversal, descriptivo, en el Servicio de ginecología del Hospital Nacional Cayetano Heredia entre los meses de febrero y abril de 1995. SUJETOS: 212 pacientes. RESULTADOS: 84% estaban en climaterio o menopausia, los síntomas más reconocidos fueron del tipo neuropsiquiátrico. Tenía conocimiento de la existencia de tratamiento, el 72%, sólo 6% usaba TRH. El 97% acepta hormonoterapia y el 61% mostró disposición a recibirla de por vida: sin embargo, solo 25% tenía conocimiento de los beneficios. Se encontró temor al sangrado y a la gestación en 37% y 58%, respectivamente. Se evidenció que las pacientes de mayor instrucción tenían menor conocimiento de los beneficios de TRH y recibieron mayor información.
