RESULTS: 11.7% of the operated patients had endometriosis emergency and surgical wound infection , compared with 6.1% in the case of scheduled cesarean, growing these differences of statistical significance. 18.3% of cesarean patients between 0 and 7 hours showed some of postoperative complications studied compared with 9.7% and 9.4% of patients operated between 8-15 and 16-23 hours respectively, and these highly significant differences. Finally, 12.8% of patients who did not receive antibiotic prophylaxis presented some complications, compared with those who did were given, who had only 5% of complications, these highly significant differences. CONCLUSIONS: endometritis and wound infection were not significantly more frequent in emergency caesarean sections. There is a highly significant difference in the time of intervention and the use of prophylactic antibiotics among patients who did cesarean endometritis and / or surgical wound infection.OBJETIVO: Comparar la frecuencia de endometritis e infección de herida operatoria en cesáreas programadas y de urgencia. DISEÑO: Estudio epidemiológico retrospectivo, observacional y transversal. LUGAR: Servicio de Obstetricia del Hospital Regional Honorio Delgado, Arequipa, Perú. MATERIAL Y MÉTODOS: Paciente de bajo riesgo para infecciones postoperatorias, cesareadas durante el período comprendido entre el 1 de enero al 31 de diciembre del año 2000. RESULTADOS: El 11,7% de las pacientes operadas de urgencia presentaron endometrosis e infección de herida operatoria, en comparación con 6,1% en los casos de cesáreas programadas, creciendo estas diferencias de significación estadística. El 18,3% de las pacientes cesareadas entre las 0 y 7 horas presentaron alguna de las complicaciones postoperatorias estudiadas en comparación con el 9,7% y 9,4% de las pacientes operadas entre las 8 a 15 y 16 a 23 horas, respectivamente, siendo estas diferencias altamente significativas. Finalmente, 12,8% de pacientes que no recibió profilaxis antibiótica presentó alguna de las complicaciones, en comparación con las que sí recibieron, quienes sólo tuvieron 5% de complicaciones, siendo estas diferencias altamente significativas. CONCLUSIONES: La endometritis y la infección de herida operatoria no fueron significativamente más frecuentes en las cesáreas de urgencia.
