description Objective: To analyze the relationship between violence during pregnancy and maternal complications in puerperal women treated in the Vitarte Hospital of Metropolitan Lima 2017. Material and Methods: Analytical study of cases and controls with a total sample of 120 puerperal women, distributed in 60 cases (women who have maternal complications during pregnancy) and 60 controls (women who do not have maternal complications during pregnancy); in whom the history of physical, psychological and sexual violence during pregnancy was investigated; through a structured questionnaire, previously validated through a pilot test. Data analysis was performed using the SPSS vs. statistical program. 19, which considered the Chi square tests (significant p<0.05) and Odds Ratio (with 95% confidence intervals); to estimate the risk of presenting maternal complications related to the violence suffered during pregnancy. Results: 73.3% of women who had maternal complications suffered some type of violence during pregnancy. There are twice as likely to have maternal complications, if the mother has suffered some type of violence during pregnancy (OR: 2.41; 95%CI 1.12-5.17; p=0.02). The types of violence associated with maternal complications were: Physical violence (OR: 2.5; 95%CI: 1.05-5.94; p=0.035), and psychological violence (OR: 2.49; 95%CI: 1.18-5.28; p=0.01), while no significant association was found for sexual violence (OR: 1.94; 95%CI: 0.61-6.18; p=0.255). Conclusion: There is a statistically significant association between violence during pregnancy and maternal complications.

Conclusion: There is a statistically significant association between violence during pregnancy and maternal complications.
