This insight into the viceroy’s patronage networks identifies the members of his entourage, the role some of them played in pursing their patron’s interests, and their careers in the Indies. Moreover, the viceroy’s largesse encompassed colonial-born “beneméritos”, on whom he also bestowed his favors.A través del estudio de conceptos de la cultura política de la Monarquía hispánica de los siglos XVI y XVII y de documentación inédita encontrada en el Archivo General de Indias, el presente artículo pretende analizar las modalidades, rasgos y límites del ejercicio del patronazgo del marqués de Guadalcázar durante su gestión novohispana (1612-1621). Así, se perfilan las redes clientelares del virrey al identificar a los integrantes de su séquito, el rol que algunos de ellos desempeñaron como agentes de los intereses personales de su patrón y la trayectoria de sus carreras propias en las Indias.
