His greatest legacy, the Argentine Civil Code, is highlighted as a legal work that merged the classical principles of Roman law with the contemporary needs of his country, guaranteeing legal certainty. The article also highlights the relevance of Roman law not only in legislation, but also in cultural and educational life, and how its influence continues despite regulatory changes, reaffirming its centrality in the Latin American legal tradition.El presente artículo examina la influencia del romanismo en la formación jurídica de juristas latinoamericanos, con énfasis en Dalmacio Vélez Sarfield, uno de los tres grandes referentes con Teixeira de Freitas y Andrés Bello. Estos juristas cimentaron la identidad socio política de América Latina, usando el derecho romano como base de sus sistemas legales. En particular, se analiza el impacto del Corpus Iuris y las Institutas de Justiniano en la enseñanza jurídica en universidades como la de Córdoba, que moldearon a Vélez. Su mayor legado, el Código Civil Argentino, es destacado como una obra jurídica que fusionó principios clásicos del derecho romano con las necesidades contemporáneas de su país, garantizando seguridad jurídica.
