These factors have divided the country and its population between the West and the East. This dispute inextricably encompasses questions of national identity and the emergence of new post-Soviet national identities. Making Ukraine a victim of its geography, due to the importance of this territory for the West and the East. Geostrategic importance evidenced by NATO’s advance to the East and Russia’s response to this advance. Likewise, the contemporary conflict with its origins in the Orange Revolution of 2004 will be addressed. In addition, we will address the long-term consequences of the Minsk Agreements and the role they will play in the possible Finlandization of Ukraine and the annexation of the Donbas region by Russia. Similarly, evaluate the conflict from realpolitik, and highlight the importance of political realism in the international arena.Este artículo analizará la guerra ruso-ucraniana, la cual engloba factores geográficos, políticos y nexos etnoculturales pre y pos soviéticos entre ambas naciones, las cuales comparten una milenaria y rica historia, caracterizada por el eterno conflicto por el control del territorio conocido hoy como Ucrania. Dichos factores han dividido al país y su población entre Oeste y el Este. Esta disputa engloba, indisolublemente, cuestiones de identidad nacional y el surgimiento de nuevas identidades nacionales postsoviéticas. Convirtiendo a Ucrania en víctima de su geografía, debido a la importancia que tiene este territorio para Occidente y el Este. Importancia geoestratégica evidenciada por el avance de la OTAN hacia el Este y la respuesta de Rusia a este avance. Asimismo, se abordará el conflicto contemporáneo con sus orígenes en la Revolución Naranja de 2004. De igual forma, se indagará sobre las consecuencias, a largo plazo, de los Protocolos de Minsk y el rol van a jugar en la posible finlandización de Ucrania y la anexión de la región del Donbass por parte de Rusia.
