To understand the most recent changes, a historical review of the modifications made up to the 1979 Constitution is made. In conclusion, it emphasizes the need to implement more changes in the municipalities' regime, to improve the organization of the State and to propose a more efficient model that properly responds to local and national needs.El objetivo del presente trabajo es analizar el régimen de las municipalidades en la Constitución Política del Perú de 1979. Para ello, se desarrolla una definición de municipio y se describen sus principales componentes característicos. Asimismo, para comprender los cambios más recientes, se realiza un repaso histórico de las modificaciones sufridas hasta la constitución de 1979.
