Additionally, this analysis presents a review of its process of production, inside the work of the commissions and preliminary texts.This is dealt by presenting some of the sharpest criticism made to the codification efforts and the academic debate on the importance of having a General Section or even a code for the German area. Finally, the author sets the relationship between this German product and other laws that appeared in countries influenced by it.En este artículo, el autor realiza una aproximación histórica a la Parte General del Bürgerliches Gesetzbuch, realizando importantes anotaciones sobre el contexto político y social en el que se gestó. Asimismo, ello supone una revisión del proceso de producción de esta norma, en términos de comisiones y trabajos preliminares.Para lograr esta caracterización, se hace un recorrido por algunas de las críticas más agudas que se realizaron a los intentos de codificación, y por el debate surgido en torno a la existencia misma de una Parte General o incluso de una codificación para el entorno germano.
