description This article discusses the various meanings attributed to the concept of research methodology, based on an analysis of the study plans and programs of three doctoral programs in education in Mexico. These programs have well-established faculty and have produced several generations of trained students. The article outlines the methodology used to analyze the curricular discourse related to the concept of research methodology, and presents findings that highlight the different interpretations given to key elements of this concept across the three programs. The results reveal nine major attributions of meaning to the concept of research methodology, with varying degrees of similarity across the three programs. One shared conception is that research methodology is primarily a logic of knowledge generation, rather than a set of techniques. Additionally, all three programs acknowledge that research methodology is an object of knowledge and training that is constantly evolving. Overall, this article provides valuable insights into the ways in which research methodology is understood and taught in academic settings, particularly within the context of doctoral programs in education. The use of a comparative approach allows for a deeper understanding of the nuances and differences in meaning that exist across different programs.The article is relevant to scholars and educators interested in research methodology and its role in training for educational research.

Estos doctorados, además de diseños curriculares específicos, cuentan con profesores consolidados en procesos de investigación y varias generaciones de estudiantes formados(as). En este documento se explica el análisis realizado de los planes y programas, basado en la delimitación e interpretación de unidades de contenido presentes en el discurso curricular relacionadas con el concepto metodología de la investigación. Producto de lo anterior, se enuncian algunos hallazgos acerca de significados dados en cada programa doctoral a elementos clave de este concepto, junto con una mirada comparativa entre los tres programas, en el marco de estudio de la formación para la investigación educativa. Como parte de los resultados se encontraron nueve grandes atribuciones de significado al concepto, con distinto nivel de afinidad entre estos programas. Se comparten las concepciones de que la metodología de la investigación es más una lógica de generación de conocimiento que una definición de técnicas, así como el hecho de que comprende bases epistemológicas para métodos particulares. En todos los programas se sostiene, asimismo, el carácter de la metodología de la investigación como objeto de conocimiento y de formación en constante evolución.Este artigo discute os significados do conceito de metodologia de pesquisa, infe-ridos a partir da revisão dos planos e programas de estudo de três programas de doutorado em educação no México. Esses programas possuem professores comprometidos com processos de pesquisa e várias gerações de alunos formados. O documento apresenta uma análise dos planos e programas, com base na delimitação e interpretação das unidades de conteúdo presentes no discurso curricular, relacionadas ao conceito de metodologia de pesquisa. São apresentadas constatações sobre os significados atribuídos em cada programa de doutorado a elementos-chave desse conceito, bem como um olhar comparativo entre os três programas, no contexto do estudo da formação para a investigação educacional. Como resultado, foram encontradas nove grandes atribuições de sentido ao conceito, com diferentes níveis de afinidade entre os programas. As concepções de que a metodologia de pesquisa é mais uma lógica de geração de conhecimento do que uma definição de técnicas, bem como o fato de que esta compreende bases epistemológicas para métodos particulares, são compartilhadas em todos os programas.
