Romanism is presented as a central element in the teaching of law and the interpretation of codes in Latin America. The article also presents the impact of Roman sources on judicial practice, highlighting their use to sustain arguments, broaden the interpretation of laws, and address complex legal problems. In this framework, special attention is given to the work of Ricardo Hinestrosa Daza, whose judicial decisions show a great knowledge of Roman law, using aphorisms, technical concepts in Latin and implicit references to Roman sources. After an exhaustive study of his sentences, it becomes evident the survival of Roman law in Colombian jurisprudence and the importance of its legacy in legal education. Finally, the author invites to continue with the research on the validity and value of Roman law in the development of modern Latin American law.El presente artículo explora la influencia del derecho romano en el derecho latinoamericano, subrayando cómo ha moldeado tanto la codificación de las leyes civiles como la formación de los juristas. Se presenta al romanismo como un elemento central en la enseñanza del derecho y en la interpretación de los códigos en América Latina. Asimismo, se examina el impacto de las fuentes romanas en la práctica judicial, destacándose su uso para fundamentar argumentos, ampliar la interpretación de las leyes y abordar complejos problemas jurídicos. En ese marco, se presta especial atención a la obra de Ricardo Hinestrosa Daza, cuyas decisiones judiciales reflejan un gran conocimiento del derecho romano, empleando aforismos, conceptos técnicos en latín y referencias implícitas a las fuentes romanas. Luego de un estudio exhaustivo de sus sentencias, se evidencia la pervivencia del derecho romano en la jurisprudencia colombiana y la importancia de su legado en la formación legal.
