As cardiovascular surgeons we have the opportunity to offer this additional impactful surgical procedure, so the objective of this review is to understand its anatomical and surgical principles, in addition to evaluating the evidence that supports its indication.La oclusión quirúrgica de la orejuela izquierda durante la cirugía cardiaca ha demostrado disminuir el riesgo de stroke y embolia sistémica de forma significativa en los pacientes con fibrilación auricular, siendo actualmente un procedimiento con un alto grado de recomendación.
