This is why the Ministry of Education (MINEDU) alludes to the need to build harmonious and balanced human relationships between all members of the educational community as a shared responsibility. Unfortunately, cases of violence within educational institutions are frequent and increasingly numerous, having reached alarming figures, including physical, psychological and sexual violence, perpetrated by students, teachers and administrative staff. The eradication of school violence as a fundamental factor in school coexistence has to do with the rights to freedom, the free development of personality, and not to be subjected to mistreatment and torture, all of which are constitutionally protected. However, we cannot lose sight of the fact that the problem of the impact on school coexistence is derived from the structural violence generated by the State itself due to the neglect of the needs of the population, which generates tensions and serious social conflicts that exacerbate spirits inclining them towards destructive attitudes. In this article, a panoramic review is made of the way in which school coexistence develops in Peruvian educational institutions and the factors that affect it.La convivencia escolar constituye un elemento fundamental en la formación integral de los estudiantes. Es por ello que el Ministerio de Educación (MINEDU) alude a la necesidad de construir relaciones humanas armónicas y equilibradas entre todos los miembros de la comunidad educativa como una responsabilidad compartida. Lamentablemente, son frecuentes y cada vez más numerosos los casos de violencia al interior de las instituciones educativas, habiendo alcanzado cifras alarmantes, comprendiendo violencia física, psicológica y sexual, perpetrada por estudiantes, docentes y personal administrativo. La erradicación de la violencia escolar como factor fundamental de la convivencia escolar tiene que ver con los derechos a la libertad, al libre desarrollo de la personalidad, a no ser sometido a malos tratos y torturas, todos ellos amparados constitucionalmente. Sin embargo, no se puede perder de vista que el problema de la afectación de la convivencia escolar se deriva de la violencia estructural generada por el mismo Estado por la desatención de las necesidades de la población, lo cual genera tensiones y graves conflictos sociales que exacerban los ánimos inclinándolos hacia actitudes destructivas.
