The virtual whiteboard, an emerging tool in distance education, is the object of study of the present research, conducted in a public university, to evaluate its use in the teaching of basic mathematics to 36 students, using a quantitative approach, non-experimental design and descriptive sub-design. In the instrumental dimension, teachers showed limitations in the technical handling of the tool. Cognitively, the integration of the virtual whiteboard in teaching strategies was minimal. Behaviorally, students interacted little with the tool, and axiologically, no significant change was perceived in the educational values promoted. These results suggest the need to train teachers in the effective use of virtual whiteboards and to foster an educational culture that values and takes advantage of digital technologies. They also highlight the importance of further research and development of methodologies that integrate these tools more effectively into the educational process.Históricamente, las pizarras virtuales surgieron con el auge de las tecnologías digitales a fines del siglo XX y principios del XXI, ofreciendo una alternativa interactiva a las tradicionales pizarras físicas. La pizarra virtual, herramienta emergente en la educación a distancia, es el objeto de estudio de la presente investigación, realizado en una universidad pública, para evaluar su uso en la enseñanza de matemática básica a 36 estudiantes se usó el enfoque cuantitativo, diseño no experimental y sub diseño descriptivo Se encontró que el uso de la pizarra virtual por parte del docente muestra una tendencia baja. En la dimensión instrumental, los docentes mostraron limitaciones en el manejo técnico de la herramienta. Cognitivamente, la integración de la pizarra virtual en las estrategias de enseñanza fue mínima. Conductualmente, los estudiantes interactuaron poco con la herramienta, y axiológicamente, no se percibió un cambio significativo en los valores educativos promovidos. Estos resultados sugieren la necesidad de capacitar a los docentes en el uso efectivo de las pizarras virtuales y de fomentar una cultura educativa que valore y aproveche las tecnologías digitales.
