The authors make a proposal to improve its effectiveness, emphasizing that, at all times, surgeons must accept with honesty and ethics, essential requirements for a good professional practice, offering his ability for the benefit of the patient.Este trabajo tiene como objetivo hacer una revisión de la cirugía centrada en la persona, los antecedenteshistóricos, los principios básicos del ejercicio de la profesión y el perfil del cirujano humanista y humanitario, priorizando el vínculo con el paciente y las metas que se debe alcanzar en los planes curriculares de su formación, y enfatizando en la importancia del consentimiento informado en cirugía.
