Nonetheless, time passed by and his contributions became forgotten, so the purpose of this paper is to rescue Dr. Matto-Usandivaras contributions and place them in a proper context so members of the Peruvian medical community – particularly pathologists and psychiatrists – may become more knowledgeable of his valuable work.El doctor David Matto Usandivaras realizó importantes contribuciones a la medicina peruana, en particular en las especialidades de Patología Clínica y Psiquiatría, hacia finales del siglo XIX e inicios del siglo XX, que coincidió con la corriente cientificista que comenzó a prevalecer paulatinamente en los años posteriores a la Guerra del Pacífico.
