The heads of the Pathology Laboratories were interviewed about the accomplishments of the screening guidelines. Results: The regional screening coverage was 9,0 %. Only 36,3 % of patients with high grade cytology had confirmatory biopsy. The cytology screening guidelines were not fulfilled. Conclusión: The cervical screening Program for cervical cancer and precursors require fundamental changes to achieve the control of the disease.Objetivos: Evaluar la cobertura del tamizaje cervical mediante citología convencional en la Región La Libertad, determinar la frecuencia de las biopsias confirmatorias en pacientes con citología de alto grado y verificar el cumplimiento de las normas para el tamizaje con citología cervical. Material y método: Se recopilaron los informes citológicos del tamizaje realizado en el año 2010. Un año después se verificó el informe histológico confirmatorio de las pacientes con citología de alto grado. Se entrevistó a los jefes de los laboratorios de Patología para obtener información acerca del cumplimiento de las normas para el tamizaje citológico. Resultados: La cobertura del tamizaje a nivel regional fue 9,0 %. Sólo 36,3 % de las citologías de alto grado tuvieron biopsia confirmatoria. Las normas para el tamizaje no se cumplieron.
