Conociendo las graves consecuencias que puede traer su expansión, se decide realizar un trabajo que consiste en la implementación de un sistema de información que permita la detección automática de plagio en documento en formato electrónico. Se incurre en plagio cuando se indica que una persona es autora de "algo" (ideas plasmadas en documentos) que en realidad no ha elaborado y que ha copiado de otra persona o fuente sin realizar alguna modificación sustancial o un aporte personal y sin referenciar convenientemente a la autora original.
