Resúmenes4 páginas.En el nororiente peruano, al este de la provincia de Jaén, sector suroriental de la cuenca Bagua (Fig.1), aflora una sucesión de sedimentos continentales reconocidos por su color rojo a púrpura, reconocida como Formación Chota, con una secuencia de límite transicional (Mourier et al., 1988; Sánchez, 1995) sobre la Formación Celendín y concordantes bajo la Formación Cajaruro. Esta unidad fue definida por Broggi (1942) y estudiada por diversos autores (Córdova, 1986; Mourier, et al., 1988; Naeser et al., 1991; Sánchez, 1995, entre otros) y fue Mourier, et al., (1988), quien dio a conocer por primera vez, la presencia de carofitas. El presente trabajo tiene como finalidad poner en evidencia registros de caro-fitas en nuevas localidades y marcar no solo sus biocrones sino establecer precisiones acorde a las características sedimentarias y límites estratigráficos para establecer su correlato temporal como aporte al mejor entendimiento de la evolución cenozoica en la Cuenca Bagua.
