Resúmenes4 páginas.El documento da a conocer los principales resultados obtenidos por el INGEMMET en el año 1991. Hasta hace una década, la evidencia paleontológica en sedimentitas del Ordoviciano Superior peruano se limitaba a raras citas de graptolitos, braquiópodos, filocáridos y braquiópodos de ubicación estratigráfica dudosa (Newton, 1901; Ochoa, 1904; Steinmann, 1929; Bulman, 1931; Brussa et al., 2007), a los que se añadieron otras menciones someras en algunas publicaciones y mapas geológicos oficiales (Boucot y Mégard, 1972; Laubacher, 1977, 1978; Aranda Vercelli y Aldana Álvarez, 1985; Palacios et al., 1993; Romero et al., 1995). Los trabajos de Chacaltana et al. (2010), Villas et al. (2010) y Gutiérrez-Marco et al. (2010) aportaron datos paleontológicos y estratigráficos nuevos, que sirvieron para precisar la extensión del Ordoviciano Superior en las formaciones San José y Sandia de la Cordillera Oriental, complementados por dos publicaciones recientes que describieron una parte de las asociaciones paleontológicas (Villas et al., 2015; Vinn y Gutiérrez-Marco, 2016).
