El objetivo es obtener el grado de vulnerabilidad debida a la actividad volcánica, localizada en el Suroeste del Perú. Se emiten recomendaciones, para establecer programas de mitigación, ante los peligros volcánicos que amenazan esta región. Se enumeran todas las formas volcánicas identificadas en 402 entradas listadas de Norte a Sur. Se incluyen las iniciales de las hojas topográficas utilizadas (1:100,000 IGN) y un número secuencial desde el Norte hacia el Sur. Cada ficha incluye el nombre, la segmentación tectónica, su categoría (de estructuras potencialmente activas y de estructuras extintas, según estado de actividad), el tipo de estructura volcánica (morfología), datos de localización geográfica, diámetro del depósito, del cono y del cráter, longitud del flujo, edad (clasificación subjetiva, según factores) y volumen del volcán. En el Perú, históricamente, cuatro volcanes han tenido actividad durante los últimos 100 años, con aproximadamente 10 fases de erupciones. Las regiones de la actual actividad volcánica en el país se concentran, entre los 15°30’ y 17°30’ de Latitud Sur, donde se localizan los 14 volcanes potencialmente activos, todos ellos en línea paralela a la costa, entre los cuales llama la atención la actividad de los volcanes Sabancaya, Ubinas, y Misti y los orificios de los volcanes jóvenes Coropuna, Firura, Chachani, Huaynaputina, Tutupaca, Yucamane, y Casiri. Además se incluye como zona potencialmente activa, el "Valle de los Volcanes" de Andahua (Arequipa) con numerosos conos de escorias y derrames de lavas recientes. Se detalla que el volcanismo pliocuaternario en América del Sur se distribuye en tres grandes segmentos o cinturones, sobre el margen occidental andino de la placa continental americana y está íntimamente ligado a los procesos geodinámicos de subducción de la placa de Nazca.
