Susceptibility levels to 14 antimicrobial agents and the presence of extended-spectrum beta-lactamases (ESBL) were established using MicroScan. Incidences of multidrug resistant (MDR), extensively drug resistant (XDR), and ESBL-producer isolates as well as rUTIs were estimated. The time to recurrence was established adjusted for number of antibiotic-resistant families and MDR as predictors of interest, respectively. Overall, 8,553 urinary tract infection (UTI) cases related to E. coli, including 963 rITU, were analyzed with levels of resistance >30% in all cases, except for amikacin, nitrofurantoin, and carbapenems. The incidence of rUTI was of 11.3%, being 46.5%, 24.3%, and 42.5% for MDR, XDR, and ESBLs, respectively. Bivariate analysis showed that rUTI was associated with age, gender, resistance to specific antimicrobials, MDR, and XDR. The number of antibiotic families tested as resistant, MDR, XDR, gender, and age were associated with time to recurrence when adjusted for number of antibiotic families, and MDR, gender, and age were related when adjusted for MDR. High rates of antibiotic resistance to the usual antibiotics was observed in E. coli causing UTI, with female sex, age, and antibiotic resistance being risk factors for the development of rUTI.Consejo Nacional de Ciencia, Tecnología e Innovación Tecnológica - ConcytecengMARY ANN LIEBERT, INCMICROBIAL DRUG RESISTANCEinfo:eu-repo/semantics/openAccessurinary tract infectionEscherichia coli-1Escherichia coli-1recurrence-1antibiotic resistance-1multidrug resistance-1https://purl.org/pe-repo/ocde/ford#1.06.01-1Recurrence of Urinary Tract Infections due to Escherichia coli and Its Association with Antimicrobial Resistanceinfo:eu-repo/semantics/articlereponame:CONCYTEC-Institucionalinstname:Consejo Nacional de Ciencia Tecnología e Innovacióninstacron:CONCYTEC20.500.12390/2945oai:repositorio.concytec.gob.pe:20.500.12390/29452024-05-30 16:12:21.461http://purl.org/coar/access_right/c_14cbinfo:eu-repo/semantics/closedAccessmetadata only accesshttps://repositorio.concytec.gob.peRepositorio Institucional CONCYTECrepositorio@concytec.gob.pe#PLACEHOLDER_PARENT_METADATA_VALUE##PLACEHOLDER_PARENT_METADATA_VALUE##PLACEHOLDER_PARENT_METADATA_VALUE##PLACEHOLDER_PARENT_METADATA_VALUE##PLACEHOLDER_PARENT_METADATA_VALUE##PLACEHOLDER_PARENT_METADATA_VALUE##PLACEHOLDER_PARENT_METADATA_VALUE##PLACEHOLDER_PARENT_METADATA_VALUE#<Publication xmlns="https://www.openaire.eu/cerif-profile/1.1/" id="ca6fa1f5-0413-4d07-8101-fa1ac3032f53"> <Type xmlns="https://www.openaire.eu/cerif-profile/vocab/COAR_Publication_Types">http://purl.org/coar/resource_type/c_1843</Type> <Language>eng</Language> <Title>Recurrence of Urinary Tract Infections due to Escherichia coli and Its Association with Antimicrobial Resistance</Title> <PublishedIn> <Publication> <Title>MICROBIAL DRUG RESISTANCE</Title> </Publication> </PublishedIn> <PublicationDate>2021</PublicationDate> <DOI>https://doi.org/10.1089/mdr.2021.0052</DOI> <Authors> <Author> <DisplayName>Ormeno, Maria Angeles</DisplayName> <Person id="rp08303" /> <Affiliation> <OrgUnit> </OrgUnit> </Affiliation> </Author> <Author> <DisplayName>Ormeno, Maria Jose</DisplayName> <Person id="rp08302" /> <Affiliation> <OrgUnit> </OrgUnit> </Affiliation> </Author> <Author> <DisplayName>Quispe, Antonio M.</DisplayName> <Person id="rp08300" /> <Affiliation> <OrgUnit> </OrgUnit> </Affiliation> </Author> <Author> <DisplayName>Arias-Linares, Miguel Angel</DisplayName> <Person id="rp08301" /> <Affiliation> <OrgUnit> </OrgUnit> </Affiliation> </Author> <Author> <DisplayName>Linares, Elba</DisplayName> <Person id="rp08304" /> <Affiliation> <OrgUnit> </OrgUnit> </Affiliation> </Author> <Author> <DisplayName>Loza, Felix</DisplayName> <Person id="rp08305" /> <Affiliation> <OrgUnit> </OrgUnit> </Affiliation> </Author> <Author> <DisplayName>Ruiz, Joaquim</DisplayName> <Person id="rp08298" /> <Affiliation> <OrgUnit> </OrgUnit> </Affiliation> </Author> <Author> <DisplayName>Pons, Maria J.</DisplayName> <Person id="rp08299" /> <Affiliation> <OrgUnit> </OrgUnit> </Affiliation> </Author> </Authors> <Editors> </Editors> <Publishers> <Publisher> <DisplayName>MARY ANN LIEBERT, INC</DisplayName> <OrgUnit /> </Publisher> </Publishers> <Keyword>urinary tract infection</Keyword> <Keyword>Escherichia coli</Keyword> <Keyword>Escherichia coli</Keyword> <Keyword>recurrence</Keyword> <Keyword>antibiotic resistance</Keyword> <Keyword>multidrug resistance</Keyword>
We analyzed the association between antibiotic resistance and recurrent urinary tract infection (rUTI) by Escherichia coli.
