Muñoz-Atienza holds a Juan de la Cierva-Formación Postdoctoral Contract (FJCI-2015-24452) funded by the Spanish Ministry of Economy, Industry and Competitiveness.Flavobacterium psychrophilum is the etiological agent of bacterial cold water disease (BCWD), also referred to as rainbow trout fry syndrome (RTFS), a disease with great economic impact in salmonid aquaculture. Despite this, to date, not many studies have analyzed in depth how the immune system is regulated during the course of the disease. In the current study, we have studied the transcription of several immune genes related to T and B cell activity in the skin of rainbow trout (Oncorhynchus mykiss) naturally infected with F. psychrophilum in a farm located in Lake Titicaca (Peru). The levels of expression of these genes were tested and compared to those obtained in asymptomatic and apparently healthy rainbow trout. In the case of symptomatic fish, skin samples containing characteristic ulcerative lesions were taken, as well as skin samples with no lesions. Our results pointed to a significant local up-regulation of IgD, CD4, CD8, perforin and IFNγ within the ulcerative lesions. On the other hand, no differences between the levels of expression of these genes were visible in the spleen. To confirm these results, the distribution of IgD+ and CD3+ cells was studied through immunohistochemical techniques in the ulcerative lesions. Our results demonstrate a strong local response to F. psychrophilum in rainbow trout in which IgD and T cells seem to play a major role.Consejo Nacional de Ciencia, Tecnología e Innovación Tecnológica - ConcytecengAcademic PressFish and Shellfish Immunologyinfo:eu-repo/semantics/openAccessgamma interferonCD4 antigen-1complementary DNA-1DNA 16S-1elongation factor 1alpha-1https://purl.org/pe-repo/ocde/ford#4.01.08-1Local regulation of immune genes in rainbow trout (Oncorhynchus mykiss) naturally infected with Flavobacterium psychrophiluminfo:eu-repo/semantics/articlereponame:CONCYTEC-Institucionalinstname:Consejo Nacional de Ciencia Tecnología e Innovacióninstacron:CONCYTEC#PLACEHOLDER_PARENT_METADATA_VALUE##PLACEHOLDER_PARENT_METADATA_VALUE##PLACEHOLDER_PARENT_METADATA_VALUE##PLACEHOLDER_PARENT_METADATA_VALUE##PLACEHOLDER_PARENT_METADATA_VALUE#20.500.12390/677oai:repositorio.concytec.gob.pe:20.500.12390/6772024-05-30 15:35:58.661http://purl.org/coar/access_right/c_14cbinfo:eu-repo/semantics/closedAccessmetadata only accesshttps://repositorio.concytec.gob.peRepositorio Institucional CONCYTECrepositorio@concytec.gob.pe#PLACEHOLDER_PARENT_METADATA_VALUE##PLACEHOLDER_PARENT_METADATA_VALUE##PLACEHOLDER_PARENT_METADATA_VALUE##PLACEHOLDER_PARENT_METADATA_VALUE##PLACEHOLDER_PARENT_METADATA_VALUE##PLACEHOLDER_PARENT_METADATA_VALUE#<Publication xmlns="https://www.openaire.eu/cerif-profile/1.1/" id="9e6e5590-91b5-4329-b7b9-cdf8c200de82"> <Type xmlns="https://www.openaire.eu/cerif-profile/vocab/COAR_Publication_Types">http://purl.org/coar/resource_type/c_1843</Type> <Language>eng</Language> <Title>Local regulation of immune genes in rainbow trout (Oncorhynchus mykiss) naturally infected with Flavobacterium psychrophilum</Title> <PublishedIn> <Publication> <Title>Fish and Shellfish Immunology</Title> </Publication> </PublishedIn> <PublicationDate>2019</PublicationDate> <DOI>https://doi.org/10.1016/j.fsi.2018.11.027</DOI> <SCP-Number>2-s2.0-85056652191</SCP-Number> <Authors> <Author> <DisplayName>Muñoz-Atienza E.</DisplayName> <Person id="rp01529" /> <Affiliation> <OrgUnit> </OrgUnit> </Affiliation> </Author> <Author> <DisplayName>Távara C.</DisplayName> <Person id="rp01525" /> <Affiliation> <OrgUnit> </OrgUnit> </Affiliation> </Author> <Author> <DisplayName>Díaz-Rosales P.</DisplayName> <Person id="rp01528" /> <Affiliation> <OrgUnit> </OrgUnit> </Affiliation> </Author> <Author> <DisplayName>Llanco L.</DisplayName> <Person id="rp01526" /> <Affiliation> <OrgUnit> </OrgUnit> </Affiliation> </Author> <Author> <DisplayName>Serrano-Martínez E.</DisplayName> <Person id="rp01530" /> <Affiliation> <OrgUnit> </OrgUnit> </Affiliation> </Author> <Author> <DisplayName>Tafalla C.</DisplayName> <Person id="rp01527" /> <Affiliation> <OrgUnit> </OrgUnit> </Affiliation> </Author> </Authors> <Editors> </Editors> <Publishers> <Publisher> <DisplayName>Academic Press</DisplayName> <OrgUnit /> </Publisher> </Publishers> <Keyword>gamma interferon</Keyword> <Keyword>CD4 antigen</Keyword> <Keyword>complementary DNA</Keyword> <Keyword>DNA 16S</Keyword> <Keyword>elongation factor 1alpha</Keyword>
Flavobacterium psychrophilum is the etiological agent of bacterial cold water disease (BCWD), also referred to as rainbow trout fry syndrome (RTFS), a disease with great economic impact in salmonid aquaculture.
