We also tested if a 15 min exposure time could generate the same results as longer incubation times (30, 45 and 60 min). Ten different hypoosmotic solutions (50, 75, 100, 125, 150, 175, 200, 250, 275, and 300 mOsm/kg) were prepared from sodium citrate and fructose diluted in bidistilled water and were employed at 37 °C. According to the percentage of reacted spermatozoa, 75–100 mOsm/kg solutions were the most sensitive (P<0.05, n=15). Also, the different exposure times did not show any significant effect (P>0.05, n=15); therefore allowing 15 min to be considered sufficient incubation time.Consejo Nacional de Ciencia, Tecnología e Innovación Tecnológica - ConcytecengElsevierinfo:eu-repo/semantics/openAccessZoologíaGenética animal-1https://purl.org/pe-repo/ocde/ford#1.06.11-1Hypoosmotic swelling test in epididymal ram (Ovis aries) spermatozoainfo:eu-repo/semantics/articlereponame:CONCYTEC-Institucionalinstname:Consejo Nacional de Ciencia Tecnología e Innovacióninstacron:CONCYTEC20.500.12390/932oai:repositorio.concytec.gob.pe:20.500.12390/9322024-05-30 15:59:55.244http://purl.org/coar/access_right/c_14cbinfo:eu-repo/semantics/closedAccessmetadata only accesshttps://repositorio.concytec.gob.peRepositorio Institucional CONCYTECrepositorio@concytec.gob.pe#PLACEHOLDER_PARENT_METADATA_VALUE##PLACEHOLDER_PARENT_METADATA_VALUE##PLACEHOLDER_PARENT_METADATA_VALUE##PLACEHOLDER_PARENT_METADATA_VALUE##PLACEHOLDER_PARENT_METADATA_VALUE#<Publication xmlns="https://www.openaire.eu/cerif-profile/1.1/" id="1a386ee7-a50f-4adc-98eb-7aeb3e3ff8f3"> <Type xmlns="https://www.openaire.eu/cerif-profile/vocab/COAR_Publication_Types">http://purl.org/coar/resource_type/c_1843</Type> <Language>eng</Language> <Title>Hypoosmotic swelling test in epididymal ram (Ovis aries) spermatozoa</Title> <PublishedIn> <Publication> </Publication> </PublishedIn> <PublicationDate>2013</PublicationDate> <DOI>https://doi.org/10.1016/j.livsci.2013.08.023</DOI> <SCP-Number>2-s2.0-84886727969</SCP-Number> <Authors> <Author> <DisplayName>Vásquez J.</DisplayName> <Person id="rp02466" /> <Affiliation> <OrgUnit> </OrgUnit> </Affiliation> </Author> <Author> <DisplayName>Florentini E.A.</DisplayName> <Person id="rp02467" /> <Affiliation> <OrgUnit> </OrgUnit> </Affiliation> </Author> <Author> <DisplayName>Camargo L.A.</DisplayName> <Person id="rp02464" /> <Affiliation> <OrgUnit> </OrgUnit> </Affiliation> </Author> <Author> <DisplayName>Gonzales J.</DisplayName> <Person id="rp01216" /> <Affiliation> <OrgUnit> </OrgUnit> </Affiliation> </Author> <Author> <DisplayName>Valdivia M.</DisplayName> <Person id="rp02465" /> <Affiliation> <OrgUnit> </OrgUnit> </Affiliation> </Author> </Authors> <Editors> </Editors> <Publishers> <Publisher> <DisplayName>Elsevier</DisplayName> <OrgUnit /> </Publisher> </Publishers> <Keyword>Zoología</Keyword> <Keyword>Genética animal</Keyword>
The present study intended to develop the hypoosmotic swelling (HOS) test and to determine an appropriate hypoosmotic solution (HS) for its use in epididymal spermatozoa from ram, thus allowing the evaluation of the membrane functional integrity.
