The results show significant differences when a mixture model is used and therefore an approach more coherent with the observed data.Neste trabalho, vazoes máximas observadas na bacia do rio Paranapanema sao modelados por uma mistura de duas distribuicoes GEV cujas componentes correspondemás subpopulacoes de verao e inverno. A funcao discriminante nao linear permitiu confirmar a hipótese do modelo de mistura. O modelo proposto é entao usado para determinar as probabilidades de excedencias e períodos de retorno associados a vazoes extremas, que sao de fundamental importancia para projetos hidráulicos. Neste trabalho, vazoes máximas observadas na bacia do rio Paranapanema sao modelados por uma mistura de duas distribuicoes GEV cujas componentes correspondemás subpopulacoes de verao e inverno. A funcao discriminante nao linear permitiu confirmar a hipótese do modelo de mistura. O modelo proposto é entao usado para determinar as probabilidades de excedencias e períodos de retorno associados a vazoes extremas, que sao de fundamental importancia para projetos hidráulicos.
