I thank the Executive Committee of the First Peruvian Congress of Obstetrics and Gynecology for the honor you have given me to entrust the study of Obstetrics Official Theme entitled Forceps: Present Value; work of the greatest interest in obstetric practice and seek to develop by following a simple plan, classic, recalling that the application of forceps should be a very reasoned act and not a series of mechanical movements learned in a kind of military manual. It should then before applying the forceps in practice to know exactly the services he may or may not pay; enter reasoned discussion of their role and know the purpose of the modifications that have been made to an instrument that day by an advanced degree of perfection reached today.
Debo agradecer al Comité Ejecutivo del Primer Congreso Peruano de Obstetricia y Ginecología por el honor que me han dispensado al confiarme el estudio del Tema Oficial de Obstetricia titulado: Forceps: Valor Actual; trabajo del más grande interés en la práctica obstétrica y que procuraremos desarrollar siguiendo un plan simple, clásico, recordando que la aplicación del forceps debe ser un acto muy razonado y no una serie de movimientos mecánicos aprendidos en una especie de manual militar. Se debe pues antes de aplicar el forceps en la práctica, conocer exactamente los servicios que él puede o no prestar; entrar en la discusión razonada de su rol y saber el objeto de las modificaciones que han sido aportadas a un instrumento que ha llegado hoy día a un grado avanzado de perfección.
