With regard to the conventional use of ocitocitos postpartum

In 200 normal women in post partum a comparative study of the effects of ergonovine was made; half of the patients were controls and did not receive the drug; half of them received 0.2 mg. of ergonovine maleate i.m. immediately after expulsion of the placenta and the some amount every 6 hours per os; no significant difference was observed between both groups nor in the loss blood, neither in the uterine involution or muscle tone. On this basis the authors discuss the value of the routine administration of this type of drug s in the normal puerperium.
En 200 mujeres normales en post parto un estudio comparativo de los efectos de ergonovina fue hecho; la mitad de los pacientes fueron controles y no recibió el fármaco; la mitad de ellos recibió 0,2 mg. de maleato de ergonovina i.m. inmediatamente después de la expulsión de la placenta y la cierta cantidad cada 6 horas por vía oral; no se observó diferencia significativa entre ambos grupos ni en la pérdida de sangre, ni en la involución uterina o el tono muscular. Sobre esta base, los autores discuten el valor de la administración sistemática de este tipo de medicamento s en el puerperio normal.
